AT LAST! EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW TO MEET THE FILIPINA OF YOUR DREAMS!

Ermita Manila's LA CAFE-Weekends' Live Music Open 24 Hours

METRO-MANILA NIGHTLIFE

Manila's former nightlife district, Ermita, changed drastically when Mayor Lim ordered many of the "bikini bars" with young dancers closed in the early 90s. In recent years more "girlie bars" are opening in Ermita and there are a couple of places with live music, The Cowboy Bar and Grill on Mabini, the nearby beer garden venue with 4 bands nightly and LA Cafe located on M.H.Del Pilar Street corner of Salas Street.( the first street runnng parallel to Manila Bay's Roxas Blvd )

2007 UPDATE: Sorry to inform you that Manila's  BEST development in 40 years, "BAYWALK" has been CLOSED by the NEW returning MAYOR LIM since the June 2007 election. It was a  new, really upbeat development in Manila's nightlife's scene stretching for almost one mile along Manila Bay's Roxas Blvd's seawall from Ermita to Malate. There are a variety of sidewalk cafes serving an array of international cuisines like Thai, Chinese, Korean, Hawaiian, Filipino, Spanish foods with two or more fantastic local Filipino live bands playing on the weekends and during special occasions.

In the "University Belt", Merricks across from University of Santo Tomas ( usually called "UST" ) is small but cozy with mostly students and live music.

MAKATI is the financial district of Manila where most of the banks, embassies and airline offices are located with most of the nightlife located on P.Burgos Street, Makati Avenue, P. Burgos and their intersecting streets. A few of the bars, Bar Bandido, The Jungle Room, Mogambos, Wild West, the Flamingo, , Jools, Foxy's, Go Go Bananas, Bottoms, Papillon, Dimples, Hollywood, Rogues, Rascals, Ivory, Cuddles, Fire and Rain and the Hard Rock Cafe offer quite an assortment of mostly male entertainment. Two freelancer bars similiar to the LA Cafe but without live bands are the Night Train ( formerly The Underground Bar ) and next door The Matrix with friendly willing companions available for a night of fun. Depending on their sense of humor and adventure women would probably have more fun at the higher end hotel discos and bars or places which provide live music which cater to a more mixed crowd.

A few of the former over 100 bars in Ermita moved to EDSA in Pasay City not far from Roxas Blvd, near the Heritage Hotel and Casino Filipino and across from the Copacabana Hotel. The EDSA INTERNATIONAL ENTERTAINMENT COMPLEX houses The Firehouse, The Pit Stop, My Fair Club, Casino, Jamilla's, Chaos, Visions, Miss Universe and Fates. E. Dela Santos Avenue is always called "EDSA",the circular 8 lane freeway with traffic signals around Manila with the newly operational MRT, elevated monorail train in the middle.

But most of the bars closed down in Ermita moved to Angeles City 2 or 3 years after the Mt. Pinatubo Volcano erupted in 91 and 92. So few bar districts in Asia, even "Soi Cowboy" or Patpong in Bangkok can match Field's Avenue and its side streets in Dau, street and subsurb of Angeles bordering the fence and entrance of the former USA Clark Airforce Base.

QUEZON CITY NIGHTLIFE caters to mostly Filipino customers and is rarely visited by most foreigners. 1st choice is the "Stardust" Located at exactly 1182 Quezon Ave and across the street, "You and Me": 2nd choice place ( New management ) with a VIP room where all is possible on the premises.3rd choice is a tie between the "Mystique", located just a few bars down from Stardust and La Legende, where an upstairs private rooms are available at P1100 before 8PM and P1500 afterwards with a special massage service is offered by "Uncle Frank". Tips expected between P500 to P1500 depending on service. More Quezon City nightclubs: Classmate, Pegasus, Infinity, Genie, Pharaoh and Air Force One

CEBU CITY - One bar, "The Lone Star Saloon" in Cebu City's nightlife area on Maxilom Ave. is recommended by many male travelers and you might try "Our Place" on Palaez St run by Wes. A more "seedy" area is Sanciangko Street with lots of street action but take special caution if you decide to take "a look".

Don, a local foreigner recommends "Exotica" on Mango street run by an American named Bill and "Dimples" on the same street. A few other places on Mango make it the best "bar area" to visit. The club, "St Moritz" out by Lagug is an excellent "watering hole". Don says if you feel like splurging for better quality all around visit "The Fireplace" which is the nicest and most expensive but worth it.

In Puerto Galera, Mindoro all of the nightlife is on SABANG with a few "girlie" bars like the Sunset Disco, Sabang Disco and the Umbrella Bar or Blue Star and other places like it to enjoy a few sunset "Happy Hour" drinks.

On Boracay Island the main two "pick-up" places with room to dance are at Hey Judes during one of their promo parties, at the Boracay Regncy Hotel's "The Wave Disco" open until 4 AM usually in season. But there are numerous places like SUMMER PLACE and a small artistically arranged place next to Nadine's Real Coffee, south of the Red Coconut, both located in the middle of the White Beach where a motley group of travelers meet and hang out under the stars.

And last but not least is ANGELES CITY's Dau's FIELD'S AVENUE BAR DISTRICT one of the BEST in S.E. Asia.Located 2+ hours north of Metro-Manila along the boundary of the former Clark Airforce base, now a special economic zone and Manila's secondary hub for international airline traffic. The following links will help you navigate around the 80+ bars and restaurants.

Welcome to the Filipino Chat Website

Asia-Expats Forum Friends' Dating Site

The Filipino people are famous for their genuine friendly nature, hospitality and warmth. They must be some of the most informal people in the world with a great sense of humor. Like many Asians and people in undeveloped countries they can also be very practical and pragmatic beneath the surface. Finding pleasant companionship with Filipinos, in general, or some special person you find very attractive can be a very easy going situation. Whether you are young or older, male or female, regardless of your physical appearance or sexual preference plenty of friendly companionship awaits most foreign tourists in the Philippines.

We have met so many couples in the Philippines since 1986 when we opened, often perhaps considered unlikely matches but almost glow with the happiness and joy they share together. Recently a former young Morman missionary came back to the Philippines for a visit, returned to the States and came back again, soon after meeting a Filipina on the internet, also a Mormon! They are married now and nether one can wipe the beaming smiles from their faces. Like they say "LOVE MAKES THE WORLD GO ROUND" so smile and follow your instincts.

FILIPINO LOVE SONGS - (Tagalog )Cultural Music called "Kundiman" help show how ROMANTIC the people of the Philippines are.

The Philippines are the MUSIC CAPITAL of ASIA with no other Asian country having such a sense of rythm and great number of muscicians. The Spanish introduced their music which influenced the kundiman of the Tagalogs, the balitaw of the Visayans and the dal'lot of the Ilocanos. These are often sentimental and melodic tunes accompanied by a guitar. Recently some new groups have created their own unique sound by mixing electric modern instruments with their traditional ethnic instruments like gongs, bamboo nose flutes, the Mangyan git-git (a violin with strings made of human hair)and the T'boli hagalong, a set of pitched brass or bronze gongs.

"HIGHER" CULTURAL EVENTS
Most concerts, theatre productions, and higher forms of artistic endeavors can be seen at the The cultural center located on Roxas Blvd. less than 3 miles from our Townhouse Hotel, just north of CITEM where the F.A.M.E. trade shows are held, across the street from the Holiday Inn Hotel. I'm sorry to say we have not been to more than a couple of these events due to our thrifty nature. The show tickets tend to be quite expensive especially by Philippine standards. Pavarotti (sp?) tickets were the most expensive I remember. But maybe after living in the States becoming more accustomed to the cost of Broadway show tickets we'll go to more shows there.

Five Star hotels often have talented classical musicians playing in the evening so if you have a ear for string instruments and concert style pianists then enjoy yourself as you treat yourself to fine dining.

CULTURAL CENTER of the PHILIPPINES -MANILA

The first two photos below are fairly typical stage scenes in the "girlie bars" with dancers in bars common in Pasay City, Makati, and Angeles which offer the "bar fine" policy which means the customer has to pay if he'd like to take the dancer out of the bar before she gets off work. But this is not to be confused with the prostitution like in Thailand where the girls often wear numbers. Filipinas are VERY PROUD and can REFUSE to go with a customer and REFUSE his variuos intentions if she chooses. Many such dancers are single mothers with limited education from the poorer provinces of the Philippines who are helping their families financially. So show them respect, treat them well and you may have a smile on your face which will not go away.

The bottom photo was borrowed from one of many webshots and included because I think the Filipina is representatitve of an normal looking Filipina and helps show their wonderful qualities. Let's face it, few if any of us will find a beauty pageant caliber woman or celebrity good looking guy but we can learn simple happiness from such friendly people.
