WIND GURU Boracay Island, Philippines

Great Windsurfing can be found all over the Philippine Islands but Boracay Island is one of windsurfers' favorites with championships every year. Pamalican Island is another great windsurfing location. Closer to Manila, Lake Caliraya and Batangas are popular spots for mosstly local Filipino windsurfers.

Wind Seasons
The Philippines best wind season is the Northeast monsoon. From Late November to the end of Febuary the windy side of Boracay is the opposite coastline from the main white beach. During the typhoon season the wind comes from the west off Boracay's White Beach. Winds of 15-25 knots are common at this time. In March the winds subsides creating better conditions and visibility for scuba diving. During the summer months (June - September), typhoons blow through the islands regularly but the winds and waves during this time may be too strong for the most pleasurable windsurfing.

Adventure Windsurfing Boracay

According to the Neil Pryde web site, Amanpulo Resort on Pamalican Island offers great windsurfing under similiar conditions to Boracay but without the budget accomodations available. The atmosphere is more luxurious with 5 Star hotel resort comforts.
Pamalican Island is in the Cuyo Islands about 340km south of Manila and 160km south west of Boracay in the Sulu Sea. Amanpulo Resort's Super Kingair Catpass 200 transports you down to Pamalican in around 60 minutes from Manila.

Windsurfing Lessons in the Philippines

Both Great Photos Borrowed from other Windsurfing Websites

I feel almost guilty for not have learned how to windsurf yet but I still have time I guess. Many travelers learn how to windsurf on Boracay Island where there are several windsurfing shops and many amateur instructors. A few of the Boracay "regulars" who wish to backup their seasonal, "beach bum" budgets with a "sideline" teach newbies who want to learn. Water starts are the most difficult to master but with enough focus and time most people in decent physical shape can learn. Also used boards and sails can be found on Boracay for bargain prices for those of you who may catch the "bug" for this active water sport.
